It seems like one major advantage mentioned in the thread is that Discourse is easier to set up for open signups-but that was in 2018. I have never used Discord before, although I use a billion Slack workspaces every day for work stuff and its GitHub integration is awesome.
That’s too bad about Gitter and their mobile apps! I thought their iOS app was pretty good.

If you want, I could setup/handle the admin stuff of the discord but obviously have you as a full permissions owner. I personally like discord, it’s more widespread and has more features, but I can see its propensity towards gaming being offputting… someone broke down a nice set of pros/cons hereĮdit: discord also supports bots for github which could be useful

I do wonder why rocket chat or mattermost werent considered. Speaking of… I was looking into gitter some more as I hadn’t used it before, and it seems like it relies on a web-based platform for mobile apps i.e. Search: Rocketchat Vs Mattermost Vs Matrix. Matrix is ranked 1st while Rocket.Chat is ranked 6th. Hopefully a dev chat room can start to gain some traction and we can get a couple of willing developers
